Auriculotherapy or (Auricular Therapy) is an east-west hybrid medical system, founded by Dr. Paul Nogier of France in the 1940s. Auriculotherapy began with the traditional Chinese medical (TCM) use of the surface of the auricle or external ear for acupuncture or other therapeutic stimulation. Initially, the Chinese used a small number of acupoints scattered on the surface of the ear for treating a variety of maladies. Auriculotherapy is sometimes referred to as ear acupuncture or auricular acupuncture.
Auriculotherapy is safe, effective micro-current stimulation of nerve endings on the outer ears to help balance and or normalize a range of physiological and psychological functions. Auriculotherapy is often confused with ear acupuncture but it uses no needles, and instead of “meridians” uses nerve connections. A micro-current stimulator is placed on reflex points on the outside of the ear. These points send a message to the brain based on the location of the reflex point being treated. Most people feel only a tiny tingling at the ear reflex points during treatment.
Uses of Auriculotherapy
Musculoskeletal Problems
Overcoming the five primary addictions: smoking, food, gambling, sex and work
Pain Management
Compulsive Disorders
Internal Disorders
Smoking Cessation
The use of Auriculotherapy for nicotine addiction can be used effectively if done with a motivated patient. Many successful cases have been reported after only one or two treatments.
What Happens?
Micro-current is used in preference to needles, acupressure, laser and other forms of current, as this best matches the natural frequencies of the nerves being treated. Hence Micro-current is attempting to normalize abnormal nerve activities. The advanced design of the instrument we utilize has the additional advantage of being able to locate the active reflex points, as well as treat.
